He made his professional debut as a catcher after being drafted by the Lotte Giants in 2001. However, his defensive skills were not good and he was always a backup, first to Choi Ki Moon and later to Lee Dae Ho. In 2006 he was traded to the Doosan Bears where he switched from playing catcher to first base. He began contributing with timely hits until a chronic knee injury made his miss games and eventually lost his starting spot to younger and healthier players. He still managed to win the 2010 KBO League Golden Glove Award as a first baseman. He became a free agent in 2013 and signed with his former team, the Lotte Giants again. After 4 seasons, he was traded to the NC Dinos and played with them for the 2018 season and was released at the end as his contract was not renewed. He moved to Australia and became a player-coach for the newly created Geelong-Korea team of the Australian Baseball League, consisting of mostly Korean players living there. He retired at the end of the 2019 season and is currently serving as the manager of a youth baseball team in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do and since 2021, he was hired by MBC as a baseball commentator.
